Ferrington Vineyard

Genius Loci

Ferrington Vineyards beats next to Boonville, in the heart of California’s Anderson Valley. It supplies Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, and a vanishingly small amount of Sauvignon Blanc to the best winemakers in the world.

These pages tell the spirit of this place to growers who want to talk shop, winemakers looking to do their best work, sommeliers working to curate experiences and, most importantly, for all the wine lovers out there - without whom our lives become devoid of meaning.

The Vineyard

Ferrington Vineyards is located about 15 miles from the Pacific coast As the crow flies , at please gothe base of the Anderson Valley’s East Ridge. It has a long, cool growing season, freakish diurnal temperature shifts, and marginal soil that Pinot Noir and Chardonnay both crave.

You can read all about our climate, soil, topography, farming and irrigation techniques in the vineyard page.

The Blocks

Each of our 7 vineyard blocks has a distinct history and soil profile.

Six blocks sit on a gentle, south-facing slope at the toe of a ridge; a seventh sits on a more aggressive south-facing slope, about a hundred feet up.

We’ve organized our blocks, their varietals, and the wineries making wine from them for you in the blocks page.

The Wineries

The reputation of this vineyard can never be more than our partner wineries make for it, across the decades, the winemakers, and the varietals. They control what’s on the label and the story they tell These pages are intended to supplement the stories they tell, rather than replace them. . When we let them put Ferrington on that label, that means they’re special to us.

We’ve organized our partner wineries and winemakers, the varietals they work with, and their blocks on our wineries page.

The Varietals

The vineyard produces Gewürztraminer planted in 2006, old vine Sauvignon Blanc planted in 1969, eleven different clones of Pinot Noir, and five different clones of Chardonnay. We once tried to grow Syrah. It wasn’t good. We grafted it over to Pinot Noir. The Pinot Noir turned out to be delicious.

We’ve organized our varietals and clones, the blocks in which they’re grown, and which of our wineries and winemakers work with which clones on the varietals page.
