Genius Loci

Ferrington Vineyards beats next to Boonville, in the heart of California’s Anderson Valley AVA. It supplies Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, and a vanishingly small amount of Sauvignon Blanc to the best winemakers in California.

These pages are intended to capture the spirit of this place for growers interested in our approach, winemakers looking to do their best work, sommeliers and writers working to curate experiences and, most importantly, for wine lovers - without whom our lives become devoid of meaning.

The Vineyard

Ferrington Vineyard is located about 15 miles from the Pacific coast As the crow flies , at the base of the Anderson Valley’s East Ridge. It has a long, cool growing season and the marginal soil high end Pinot Noir and Chardonnay both crave. You can read all about its climate, soil, topography, farming and irrigation techniques below.

The Blocks

Each of our 7 vineyard blocks has a unique history and soil profile. Six blocks sit on a gentle, south-facing slope at the toe of a ridge. A seventh block sits on a more aggressive south-facing slope, about a hundred feet higher up the ridge. You can see the blocks, their varietals, and the wineries sourcing from them below.

The Varietals

The vineyard produces Gewurztraminer planted in 2006, old vine Sauvignon Blanc planted in 1969, eleven different clones of Pinot Noir, and five different clones of Chardonnay. We once tried to grow Syrah, but it wasn’t good, so we grafted it over to Pinot Noir. You can see the varietals and clones, the blocks in which they grow, and which of our winemakers work with them below.
